Michigan has banned private insurance providers from covering abortion except ONLY in cases where the mother’s life is at risk. That doesn’t cover rape or incest. If women want the option of an abortion to be covered by insurance they must byy a separate, outside policy called a rider. That’s why people are calling it ‘rape insurance.’ Now here’s the kicker: once pregnant, even if a result of rape or incest, women can no longer purchase the rider and are REQUIRED BY LAW TO CARRY THE PREGNANCY TO TERM.
So if you’re a woman in Michigan you have to pay extra for ‘rape insurance’ on the off-chance that you become pregnant as a result of being attacked.
